Snow, Bread, Milk and Gloves

Well, here at Weavers Cottage, the snow has begun to fall.  In true British fashion, I have to confess, the urge to go out and unnecessarily buy bread and milk is quite strong!

The cold, snowy weather has made me think of warm, woolen accessories.  I have three balls of wool I got at a discount a few days ago that I couldn't think what to do with.  The cogs began whirring as the first flakes of snow fell, and I have come up with a new design for fingerless gloves!

I began swatching gauges and measuring my wrist and before long came up with the idea of a set of crochet entrelac gloves.  I began crocheting straight away and here is a blurry snap of my progress....

I hope to have a pattern drafted by the end of this weekend.  I'm really enjoying the entrelac pattern, it's not as tricky as it looks when you get going.

Crochet Stars

Well, I can't believe how near we are to Christmas.  I glanced at the calendar this morning and completely frightened myself.  Every year, around December 1st, I start to panic about gift shopping - what to get so-and-so, how much money to spend per gift, what colour wrapping paper, gift tags, and "oh no" Christmas cards, the last posting date, etc.

Today, instead of frightening myself, I considered the decorations.  I plan to have red and white decorations with lots and lots of stars everywhere.

I browsed online for a nice sturdy, simple, crochet star pattern but couldn't find one that was just right.  So, I designed my own!  I might make some bunting with the same crochet star pattern, too.
Crochet Star Christmas Decoration
This star was made with acrylic yarn in bright red.  After washing, I pinned out the star and sprayed with starch to make sure the star keeps its shape and doesn't curl.  I left the star pinned out until completely dry.

I am selling the stars in packs of six in my Folksy shop....Crochet Star Christmas Decorations
If you fancy making your own crochet stars, I will write the pattern out in the next few days and post it here on my blog and on Ravelry.

New Granny Blanket

I've just finished a new granny blanket which is for sale on Folksy.  You can visit my Folksy shop here .... WoolnHook

I really enjoyed making these big granny squares.  I think the blanket has turned out really bright and cheerful - just perfect on a drizzly, grey day like today!

Granny Squares

I've been busy making lots and lots of granny squares for three single-bed sized blankets this week.  I have almost finished one of them but have run out of wool!  Argh!

I am making the blankets for Cumbrian Country Crafts
